Journalism: Norma Peters-  The new camera is proving to be all that and a bag of chips!  The picture clarity is very noticeable on screen which should translate to excellent print quality.  Also, the low light situations are producing great pictures and action shots are tremendous with the speed shutter feature.  The banquet video is going great.  I’ve put a 10-12 minute time limit on the production.  We received the first batch of proofs on the yearbook, and after the software glitch that dumped our first two deadlines schedules, we have only minor flaws to deal with.  The students re-built the pages that they could and we are lucky to be where we are on submission.  Kerry Simonds, yearbook editor, has been rebuilding the picture files when possible.  As usual, the Lance is in good shape and editor Laura Wirth is working on the April and Senior issues simultaneously.  With all this said, keep in mind that life is crazy, but Journalism it total lunacy and we love it.  She also added about looking into a secure website so that the parents can down load pictures of their students and events that are not always chosen for yearbook

Speech/Drama: Pam Krall -   Thank youj SO much - for your support, our competitive speech season was phenomenal.  GICC’s students represented our C-1 District very well at State!  Returning with six State medals, we ended our season 6th out of 48 qualifying schools, the best speech team record to date . . .  None of which would have been possible without your hard work and dedication to Fine Arts at Central Catholic.  We are not only proud but grateful as well.  In addition to State speech this past month, team members presented a program at St. Leo’s.  The third of four 7/8th grade Variety Nites was held in March as well.  We also pieced a show together for Crusade Kids Club.  I have submitted the necessary CNFL scholarship paperwork for two of our senior speech team members.  Two per school is the limit.  Cross your fingers.  Although it’s been a busy month, it’s been rewarding …. Thanks to you!

Vocal Music - Deb Scheel:  Malcolm Jr. High Contest was a hugh success.  Thank you to all parents that went on the buses!  Your presence was very much appreciated!  80 Vocal Music students attended on Thursday.  17 vocal music entries received Superiors and 6 received Excellent.  It’s so amazing to see these students become successful!  “Guys and Dolls” was marvelous!  We had such a great time and great audiences.  I hated to see it end.  Hope you had a chance to experience the wonderful talent we have here at GICC!  Thank you to all parents/friends involved with the production.  We couldn’t do it without you!  District Music is April 18th.  Over 800 students will be attending.  The last high school vocal music concert will be Sunday April 20th at St. Mary’s @ 3:00 pm.  The last Jr. High Vocal Music Concert will be a musical “King Midas and the Palace of Gold” on May 19.  Mark your calendars, this is a Monday night.  Thank you so much for your support.
