The counseling office has not received new scholarship information for many of the scholarships listed. Students may find scholarship applications online or in the scholarship files. *UNL HONORS PROGRAMS

To find out more information on the Honors Program go to http://honors.unl.edu to be considered for these scholarships, you must submit an admissions application to UNL by going to www.unl.edu.  They will then notify you by e-mail if you are eligible for the Honors Program. You will be given a PIN number to go to WAM.  On WAM you will be able to complete the Honors application(s).

 

UNL Honors Program Textbook Scholarship

Eligibility: Complete an honors program application, ACT scores usually 29 or above;

Top 10% of class. (Occasional exception for lower ACT.)

Award: Free textbooks, opportunity to live in the Honors Wing, enrolled in smaller honors classes with senior faculty, graduate with Distinguished Honors which helps in getting into graduate school.

Deadline: Early notification deadline November 19, 2007. You will be notified in December.

Final application date-March 1, 2008. You will be notified by April 1. Note: Nearly all admissions to the program are from the Nov. 19th  pool, so use this deadline if you want to be considered.

UNL’s J. D. Edwards Honors Program in Computer Science & Management

                Neihardt Scholars Program

Eligibility: member of the Nebraska ASA the past and/or current year as a player, team manager, umpire or Nebraska ASA official. 3.0 GPA, senior in high school, enrolled as a full-time student in a post secondary or 4-year institution in Nebraska.  Application, three recommendation letters, and essay are required. Students who set and reach ambitious goals, demonstrate drive, determination and ability to succeed in College and who have respect for self, family and community.

Award: $10,000 National Scholarships to 52 students (one in each state, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico) $15,000 additional scholarships to 10 national recipients. National scholarship winners will also be offered internships at AXA offices and a computer for college.

Eligibility: Minority student in the State of Nebraska. Primarily based on need.

Award: Typical award it between $2,000 & $4,000 a year. Award could equal the full cost of attendance.

Multicultural Community Service Scholarship

Award: Pays a full tuition waiver for up to 15 credits hours per semester

Peter Kiewit Foundation Hispanic Educators Opportunity Scholarship

Eligibility: Hispanic students pursuing classroom teaching credentials at UNK. Must be Nebraska residents who are native Spanish-speaking.

Award: up to $10,000

Eligibility: This scholarship is intended only for students who will be attending a Community College, Trade School, or Technical School. Students can not submit applications for both the Vocational Scholarship and the Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship. Eligibility-25 ACT or 1130 SAT

Graduate from Nebraska High School-2008. Enroll as a full-time college student in the fall of 2008. Must provide at least one written recommendation letter from a high school teacher or administrator. Applicant may apply at ONLY ONE state college. *McKELVEY FOUNDATION ENTREPRENEURIAL SCHOLARSHIP

(Andrew McKelvey-former CEO of Monster.com)

Eligibility: graduate high school in spring of 2008, attend a 4-year college or university within the 50 states, own and operate a genuine business for one year, non-profits are eligible. Have at least one employee, even if only part time, complete online application. Fill out a FAFSA form, provide documentation of the above when requested, agree to participate in a telephone interview, if selected as a finalist. Winners must attend the summer e-Venture program (2008 in St. Louis, MO)

Award: $1000 scholarship

Eligibility: Graduate from a Nebraska high school and completion of two or more business courses (4 semesters), computer classes, accounting, keyboarding, shorthand, office practices and procedures, and /or bookkeeping.

Eligibility: Awarded to students in under represented populations including African-                     American, Latino/Latina, and Native American students.  NE residents only

Award: $2,000/year up to the full cost of attendance. Internships in various businesses and educational institutions are made available for Davis Scholars. A separate application is required.

            Award: $3,500-$8,250 renewable; priority living accommodations, internships, etc.

*UNO SCHOLARSHIPS: Regents, Distinguished Scholars; Pacesetter Leadership, etc.

Eligibility: take the ACT by December, be admitted to UNO by February 1, rank in the top 25% of class. A separate scholarship application needed for some scholarships. Apply online at www.unomaha.edu

*Warren and Velda Wilson Scholarship Application

(Follow your counselor’s specific instructions- ASK QUESTIONS)

Award: $1,000 number varies

Eligible: A student must reside and be a graduating senior from a high school in one of the following counties: Adams, Clay, Filmore, Hall, Hamilton, Nuckolls, Thayer, Webster, and York.  GICC can submit eleven (11) applicants this year.

Student must attend a post-secondary institution in the state of Nebraska.

30% of the graduating class may apply for this scholarship regardless of GPA or ACT score.

 Evaluation committee uses the following criteria:

1)      Community Involvement, Volunteerism & Church Involvement= 20 pts

2)      Involvement in School & Extra-curricular Activities= 20 pts

            3)   Employment History, Part-time Jobs (summer & after school) = 20 pts

4)  Motivation & Desire to Succeed= 20 pts

            5) Level of Need= 10 pts.

            6) Academic Achievement= 10 pts
