KEARNEY CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL
WIRELESS LAPTOP INSTRUCTIONS
Please follow these steps to best utilize the wireless laptops.
1. Teacher knows the Wireless Laptop Policy.
2. Teacher signs the checkout sheet for the number of laptops desired. If being checked out for home or personal usage, complete the Wireless Laptop Utilization Form and place in the Distribution Folder which is located in the cart on the bottom shelf.
3. Teacher (NOT STUDENT) picks up the laptop cart or individual laptops from Mrs. Kluver’s room. Students may assist you if necessary. Please be sure the proper number of laptops are there.
4. In the classroom, teacher begins distribution of laptops:
· From cart: Teacher picks up a laptop and gently unplugs the power source from the back of the laptop to distribute to students. BE CAREFUL – some of our desks are very tipsy – be sure the weight of the laptop will not make the desk topple over when the student is not in it yet.
5. Students will take their laptops and follow these procedures to operate the laptops:
· Turn the power on by pushing the button on the top left side.
· Wait for the laptop to power up. The Windows XP login screen should appear.
· Log in to the network using your username and password. This will allow you access to your network drive which is H: to save your files.
· All Office applications (Word, Internet Explorer, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) should be available as an icon on the desktop.
· Do not install any software on the laptops. This includes downloading software from the Internet.
· Each laptop may print to any of the printers you normally have access to.
· When finished using the laptop, shut down the computer by going to Start, Shut Down. If the laptop gets hung up on the “shutting down” screen, push in the power button on the left side for about 15 seconds to power down.
6. Teachers will have students bring the laptops to the cart one at a time.
7. Teacher will plug in the power cord to the laptop and slide the laptop into the cart.
8. Teacher will return the laptops to Mrs. Kluver’s room for check in immediately concluding check-out period.
