World's Largest Truck Convoy
On Saturday, September 22, 2006 the trucking industry helped raise
money for Special Olympics. 2006 marked the 3rd year of the Truck
Convoy in Nebraska. Hundreds of trucks participate in similar events throughout the nation in September. The Truck Convoy involved forty-seven trucks and they raised about $15,000. Last year there was 37 trucks and they raised about $9,000.The convey started at the Smith Softball fields in Hastings. They traveled 17 miles on US Highway 281 to the Bosselman Travel Center outside of Grand Island. These was a big celebration with food, music and prizes for the drivers, their families, Special Olympics athletes and their families, as well as local celebrities and sponsors. Law enforcement officers from the Police Departments in Hasting and Grand Island and the sheriff's offices from Hall and Adams County joined the Nebraska State Patrol in escorting the convoy.
